Default Market-based College Rankings

Just sharing an article from Forbes, which points out how the most popular college rankings use the wrong measures. How to Choose a College - Forbes.com

According to the article, the popular "US News and World Report" college rankings are no good, and that market-based principles can produce a better, more meaningful ranking. It notes that the standard rankings are based on the input to the schools: schools are ranked based on the quality of students admitted. Instead, they want to rank schools based on results: how well the school produce educated, successful people after they graduate.

Critics of this proposed rankings, however, point out that, although it is an interesting idea, it's pretty hard to do well. For one, "success" after graduation might be difficult to quantify.

I don't see much of a point in any rankings, period. It's all subjective if you ask me. For my purposes, they are completely useless.

yes, but a lot of students still depend on the rankings to make decisions. though subjective, i guess it makes the process simpler.

College rankings don't mean much to most people, but notice how this report is allowing big business to now have say over which colleges produce worthwhile graduates!

quite possibly a healthy benefit but it seems a little scary. Does that mean if I attend a college that these big businesses do not rank high that I will be looked at as someone who may not benefit what ever company or field I grace with my presence after completing college?

Most of the ranking system or the points system we use are now totally obsolete. Further there is no universal formula for evaluating the school and there are just so much complex ways the evaluation done.
